Learn to Meditate in Four Weeks

Meditation is a method for making our mind peaceful and positive. There are many different kinds of meditation, and on this four week course we will learn a variety of different meditation techniques, all drawn from the Buddhist tradition. We will look at and practise breathing meditations for calming our mind and relaxing our body; meditations for developing a loving and compassionate heart; meditations to help us become aware of our own mind and let go of negativity; and visualization practices. Each meditation will be introduced, guided, and then practised in silence. The aim of the course is to become familiar enough with a variety of meditation techniques so that we have a meditation toolkit at our disposal to apply whenever we need it. This course is aimed mainly at beginners but also as a refresher for those who already have a meditation practice. If there is sufficient interest we will continue with regular meditation classes after the summer break.
Most people choose to meditate sitting on a chair, but we also have a variety of meditation cushions if you prefer.

These classes are organized by Ganden Kadampa Buddhist Centre, Halifax and are taught by Kadam Mike Garside. Mike had over forty years experience of meditation in the Kadampa Buddhist tradition and trained directly under the world renowned Buddhist Master, Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.
