The New Kadampa Tradition

Ganden Kadampa Buddhist Centre in Halifax, West Yorkshire, UK, is a member of the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union.   

The NKT offers courses and classes in Buddhist meditation on a local, national and international levels  to people of all ages and all walks of life.  All aspects of our provision present the original teachings and meditations of Buddha in a contemporary form that is easy for people to understand and practise, making them fresh and easily accessible.

The New Kadampa Tradition was founded by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche after he moved to the West in 1977,  on the request of students in England seeking pure Buddhist teachings.  Kadampa Buddhism  is now taught in more than 1400 locations throughout the world, in many different languages. Since his arrival in the West, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso has written 24 books which explain Modern Buddhism, his special presentation of Buddha’s teachings suitable for the modern world.

Our General Spiritual Director - Gen-la Jampa

Gen-la Jampa is an internationally renowned, ordained Buddhist teacher and the General Spiritual Director of the New Kadampa Tradition – International Kadampa Buddhist Union (NKT-IKBU).

As a senior NKT teacher, Gen-la Jampa has been a student of Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso for many years, and under Geshe-la’s guidance has taught at many centers and events around the world.Gen-la is well-loved for his clear and inspiring teachings and his ability to touch people’s hearts through his sincerity and loving-kindness.

Our Deputy Spiritual Director - Gen-la Sangden

Gen-la Sangden is the Deputy Spiritual Director of NKT-IKBU, and is the National Spiritual Director of Kadampa Buddhism in Mexico, Colombia, Nicaragua and Peru, and the Resident Teacher at KMC Mexico.

She is admired by many for her good example and her loving and clear advice. She has practised and taught Kadampa Buddhism for over 25 years.

Our Resident Teacher at Ganden Kadampa Buddhist Centre - Gen Kelsang Tumo

Gen Kelsang Tumo is the Resident Teacher at Ganden Kadampa Buddhist  Centre and has been a student of Geshe Kelsang for more than 25 years. She is known for her clear, practical teachings and her kind good heart, presenting Buddha’s teachings in a simple and relevant way. 

Our Meditation Class Teachers

Martin has been involved in the New Kadampa Tradition for nearly 30 years. Martin is a working family man with a  big heart, he is always helping others. He puts the teachings across in a light hearted way applicable to modern busy life.

Martin teaches the Thursday evening meditation classes and the Friday lunchtime meditation classes.
