These Thursday evening online classes are ideal for those who wish to learn about or deepen their understanding and experience of Buddhism and spiritual practice.
Each class is self-contained so you can ‘attend’ any class. Classes include two guided meditations, Buddhist prayers and a teaching. There is also the option at the end of live-stream class to ask questions and interact if you wish to do so. You can book for any class or attend regularly to get the most benefit. Please book below.
You don’t have to be Buddhist to benefit from the classes, they are open to everyone.
THE TEACHER
Kelsang Chogma is the Resident Teacher for Ganden Kadampa Buddhist Centre in Halifax. She has been practising and teaching meditation and modern Buddhism for over twenty years.
Chogma was ordained as a Buddhist nun in 2009 by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso and serves as a wonderful example of the ordained way of life in the modern world. She is loved for her joyful enthusiasm and gentle skill in guiding meditations.
HOW THE CLASSES RUN
These classes are currently run via Zoom Meeting and available on-demand for 7 days after the live class has ended so you can view at a time that suits you.
Booking closes 2 hours before each class. You’ll receive the Zoom link an hour before class starts.
PLEASE NOTE: This class is designed to be interactive so people can turn their cameras and microphones on to allow for discussion at the end of the class. Your Zoom name will be visible to others who are attending the class so if you wish to remain anonymous please keep your camera and mic switched off and feel free to change your Zoom name.
After booking you will receive the following emails:
* Eventbrite confirmation – no need to print it off but please do check you’ve received it. Please also check your junk folder, as it may have landed there!
* We will email you an hour before class with an invitation to register for and join the live-stream.
* After the live class has finished you will receive a link via email to be able to view the on-demand recording for up to 7 days.
The Three Principal Teachings of the Buddhist Path

Spiritual paths are not external paths but inner paths, or minds, that we cultivate through training in meditation and that lead us to the state of pure happiness and permanent freedom from suffering. This three-week series will look at the three main aspects of the path to enlightenment – renunciation, bodhichitta and correct view of emptiness.
In these classes Kelsang Chogma will teach from the book ‘The Mirror of Dharma’ and explain how we can create these paths within our own minds and find the real meaning of human life.
Feb 4 – How to develop pure renunciation
Feb 11 – How to generate the precious mind of bodhichitta
Feb 25 – The correct view of emptiness

Training in the Actual Path to Liberation
Thursdays 7-8.15pm | ONLINE
Mar 4, 11, 18 & Apr 1 (no class on Mar 25th)
This four-class series will explain the practices that lead to the attainment of liberation, or nirvana – training in higher moral discipline, concentration and wisdom. These are called ‘higher’ because they are motivated by renunciation – the wish to permanently free ourself from the suffering of countless future lives.
In these challenging, modern times we need practical teachings that can help us make progress in our daily lives so these classes will focus on how we can transform our normal, everyday activities into the spiritual path to liberation and enlightenment.
Mar 4 – Developing a higher motivation for all our activities
Mar 11 – Training in higher moral discipline
Mar 18 – Training in higher concentration
Apr 1 – Training in higher wisdom
