Lay Pratimoksha Vow Ceremony

Lay Pratimoksha Vow Ceremony

10:00 – 11:00am Saturday, 15th May 2021

“Pratimoksha” means “personal liberation.”

The Pratimoksha Vow is a moral discipline practice motivated by renunciation; the strong wish to attain personal liberation from contaminated rebirth, samsara.

In order to purify our actions of body, speech and mind, we promise that throughout our life we will abandon killing, stealing, sexual misconduct and lying, and will abstain from intoxicants (including smoking). We promise to maintain this vow throughout our life.

Please be aware:

  • We take all five precepts together and promise to keep them throughout our whole life – you cannot choose which ones you will or won’t take at the ceremony.
  • This will be in-person attendance (no online option).
  • Spaces will only be allocated to those who sincerely wish to take the vows.
  • Attendance is only for those who have received confirmation of their space.

There is no charge for this event but you may wish to make a donation for auspiciousness. You can do so here

Those who wish to take Lay Pratimoksha Vows should make careful consideration and, according to tradition, should request them from their Teacher.

To arrange a telephone chat before requesting the vows please email Kelsang Chogma at info@meditateinhalifax.org
